Park to Park to Parked!

Let’s see, where were we?  Ah yes, Spokane.  Serendipity (and the Scottish gods) led us to Washington State Parks on their free pass weekend! So while we did have to pay for camping, we didn’t have to pay for access to the parks on Sunday nor Monday.  Their way of honouring veterans, I guess.  Lucky us in so many ways.

Before we left Riverside State Park, we took the girls on a lovely walk through the park.

There were so many trails to choose from, but we managed to keep it down to two.  First through the forest and then along the river.  What a glorious park it was and a super nice walk.

Christy and Remy pose below on the cool suspension bridge that started and ended our hike.  I did not choose the other two photos I took because Kinka kept photo bombing them!

Originally, we were going to head to Hermiston, OR for another RV park, but decided we liked the State Parks so much we’d try another one. So off to Yakima, WA we went.  Another stellar drive. I had no idea Washington was so diverse in its landscape: mountains, foothills and scrub brush prairie.  Sometimes it took my breath away and other times it looked desolate.  It reminded Christy of old Star Trek sets and me of an old Clint Eastwood western.

Finding the park in Yakima proved a bit challenging. Google maps is helpful but not always completely accurate. We managed to piss one driver off enough to honk, but no damage done.  We did find the park and settled in for another cozy night surrounded by trees.  Another fine walk this morning along the park trails and we hit the road for Portland.

Columbia River RV Park is our home tonight. We wanted to do laundry and shower.  State Parks are great for the trees and nature but as we are travelling in the off season, some of the services are off, too.  Concrete is our friend and we’ll have to figure out an alternative dog walking site tomorrow.

We hope to find another park for tomorrow somewhere along the coast.  It’s time to introduce our crew to the ocean!

    1. Thanks Jac! We will only be here for the night, sadly. We're not set up so well for extended stays in big cities, but we definitely want to come back and explore the core!
